A Brief History of Egypt
- This is a chronological history of Ancient Egypt
- There were two regions of Ancient Egypt, Upper and Lower Egypt
- Upper Egypt was the southern region, upstream
- Lower Egypt was the northern region, downstream
- 12,000 years ago the first hunter-gatherer groups moved into Egypt
- Farmers lived in villages by 4500 BC
- Villages came together and became two kingdoms, Upper and Lower Egypt
- King Menes came to power in Upper Egypt and unified Egypt
- Menes was Egypt's first pharaoh, a pharaoh is the ruler of Egypt
- The first dynasty lasted for 200 years
- The second dynasty took over
- The first and second dynasties made up the Old kingdom
- The Old Kingdom was from 2700-2200 BC, a 500 year span
- The Middle Kingdom lasted from 2050-1750 BC
- The Hyksos invaded and ruled for 200 years
- In the middle of the 1500's BC Egypt came back and Ahmose of Thebes fought the Hyksos and the Hyksos left
- Ahmose was the ruler of all Egypt
- Ahmose started the New Kingdom
- The New Kingdom was the "glory days" of Egypt
- The New Kingdom lasted from 1550-1050 BC
- Conquest by the military made Egypt rich and powerful
- As Egypt expanded their trade grew also
- Ramses the Great fought the Hittites and could never win
- After the New Kingdom ended Egypt never got back the power they once had
