- In the 320s BC Candragupta Maurya, a military leader, came to power
- He conquered the northern region of India
- Thus came about the Mauryan Empire
- In 270 BC Asoka , Candragupta's grandson, became the king
- In 233 BC Asoka died
- In 184 BC the Mauryan Empire ended
- The Gupta Dynasty took over in 320 AD
- The first emperor was Candra Gupta 1
- Candra Gupta 2 took over in 375 AD
- The Gupta Empire had fallen by the mid 500s
